Ah, preschoolers
An age that is full of excitement and wonder. A time of testing boundaries, and sometimes, parents’ sanity. A time of sweetly holding a hand and then loudly proclaiming, “I’ll do it myself!” It is the time of endless questioning, climbing up in a lap for a story, and a few temper tantrums. It is the time of dress-up, imagination, and discovering new games.
Preschoolers are cute, that’s for sure, and as they make the transition from babyhood to little person, it is important for parents to begin preparing them for school.
One of the best things you can do for your preschooler is to read to them. You can find stories that will help with learning colors, letters, shapes, even the time. And never underestimate the power of reading the same story over and over again - soon the words and the pictures will be so familiar that your preschooler may be reading the story back to you!
I am somewhere in-between in the preschool journey. My oldest is in first grade and my youngest is turning three. When my oldest was a preschooler, she was dealing with a pregnant mommy and then adjusting to life with a younger sibling. But what I remember most about her preschool years was how helpful she always was and how much she loved (still does) playing dress-up and making up games and stories with her stuffed animals. Whenever we went somewhere, a toy had to follow.
My youngest will be entering that age soon, and since my oldest has decided she wants to be a teacher, has been pretending going to school for a while now.
She can’t wait to skip over all of the preschool time and jump right into kindergarten. But I’d rather slow down and enjoy the preschooler time. She’ll get there soon enough for me.

Happy Birthday, Cordelia! I can’t believe how big you’re getting! I can already tell you’ve got your Daddy’s wicked sense of humor!
